Preventive measures are a priority in those groups that perform intense physical efforts without physical preparation and that can also be overweight or obese. One of the groups that reflect these characteristics is the costaleros of the Holy Week of Andalusia, Spain. This paper aims to describe the effect of obesity on blood pressure. A descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted on 101 costaleros. The anthropometric measures were determined through segmental impedance. Cardiac recovery and anaerobic power were measured through the Ruffier–Dickson test and the Abalakov test, respectively. Blood pressure was measured when the individuals were at rest. The Kruskal–Wallis test was applied for of continuous parameters and the X2 test for dichotomous measures. Binary logistic regression models were used for the subsequent analysis with R-square and Receiver Operating Characteristic (ROC) curves. The average population was 28 years of age, 173.7 cm tall, and 82.59 Kg weigh. The excess of body fat was 11.27 Kg and Body Mass Index was 27.33 Kg/m2. 72.3% showed abnormal blood pressure and 68.2% were overweight. 32.7% had a waist-hip ratio higher than 0.94. The probability of presenting abnormal blood pressure was higher among the subjects whose fat content was higher and muscle content was lower

Segregation-induced grain boundary electrical potential in ionic oxide materials: A first principles model

    Get PDF
A first principles continuum analytical model for cationic segregation to the grain boundaries in complex ceramic oxides is presented. The model permits one to determine the electric charge density and the segregation-induced electric potential profiles through the grain and can be extrapolated to the range of nanostructured grain sizes. The theoretical predictions are compared with existing data for yttria-stabilized tetragonal zirconia polycrystals. The implications for physical properties (mainly high temperature plasticity and hardening behaviour) are then discussed.Gobierno de España MAT2009-14351-C02-01, MAT2009-14351-C02-0

Psychophysical Determination of the Relevant Colours That Describe the Colour Palette of Paintings

    Get PDF
In an early study, the so-called “relevant colour” in a painting was heuristically introduced as a term to describe the number of colours that would stand out for an observer when just glancing at a painting. The purpose of this study is to analyse how observers determine the relevant colours by describing observers’ subjective impressions of the most representative colours in paintings and to provide a psychophysical backing for a related computational model we proposed in a previous work. This subjective impression is elicited by an efficient and optimal processing of the most representative colour instances in painting images. Our results suggest an average number of 21 subjective colours. This number is in close agreement with the computational number of relevant colours previously obtained and allows a reliable segmentation of colour images using a small number of colours without introducing any colour categorization. In addition, our results are in good agreement with the directions of colour preferences derived from an independent component analysis. We show that independent component analysis of the painting images yields directions of colour preference aligned with the relevant colours of these images. Following on from this analysis, the results suggest that hue colour components are efficiently distributed throughout a discrete number of directions and could be relevant instances to a priori describe the most representative colours that make up the colour palette of paintings.FEDER Funds by the Spanish Ministry of Science Innovation and Universities (MICINN, grant number RTI2018-094738-B-I00

Understanding the effect of correlated colour temperatures on spatio-chromatic properties of natural images

Despite the natural occurrence of global and local daylight changes in natural scenes, the human visual system typically adapts well to these changes and develops stable colour perception. In a previous study, the influence of daylight characterized by its Correlated Colour Temperatures (CCT) on different chromatic descriptors was analysed (Ojeda et al., 2017). The results showed that chromatic information is almost constant for CCT values above 14,000 K, with local extremes occurring in the range of low CCTs. The aim of this work is to extend the analysis of the CCT dependence of the illuminant to those that consider the spatio-chromatic structure, including second order descriptors (gradients, spectral slope, spectral signature, and PCA) and higher order descriptors (kurtosis, skewness, and number of relevant colours). Our results show that most of the descriptors exhibit horizontal asymptotic behaviour for CCTs above 15,000 K and local extremes in the range of 3,900 K-9,600 K. For those descriptors that could be analysed in CIELAB space, sufficient statistical evidence was obtained to consider skewness, kurtosis, and the independent spectral slopes of the L* channel as equal in the range of CCTs used. However, the slight variations in spectral signatures and the directions of the principal components when applying PCA to image patches are not statistically significant and cannot be considered equal under different illuminants. The number of relevant colours (NRC) exhibits sensitivity to temperature variations and behaves similarly to the other descriptors, due to its small number.Computational Colour and Spectral Imaging Erasmus+ master programme (610605-EPP-1-2019-1-NO-EPPKA1-JMD-MOB

Wanting to demonstrate the relationship between sport and politics in a comprehensive manner, is a challenge. Therefore, a more successful approach is to identify a relationship between people and with football, one of the most popular and influential sports worldwide. As these two disciplines (politics and football) a space mass can be found behaviors that involve a number of similar characteristics. However, this study aims to find groups formed around the football they find a motivation to be part of political organizations already formed. As the case of the ""Hooligans"" a group of individuals linked to sport the sample as defined have been involved in political processes. One of these specific scenarios is Argentina, where these groups have taken a leading role in the political dynamics of the country over the past decades and especially since the presidency of Cristina Fernandez. So the dissimilar motivations to carry informal actors to participate in political scenarios will be identified. Visualsing the different methods of actions carried out by these groups to achieve both of its objectives as formal organizations that achieve linking in the policy framework."Politólogo (a)Pregrad

Universidad Nacional Agraria La Molina. The general objective of this manuscript is to present the most recent advances in the application of preservatives that mitigate nutrient losses during the storage and feeding of silage and hay. For this purpose, the current situation of forage production in Peru was first described, which was found to be quite diverse due to the great variety of microclimates. Next, the factors affecting silage and hay production were described, including their production phases, from harvest to feeding. This document outlined the most recent recommendations about the use of inoculants for silage and chemical preservatives for hay. In the case of silage inoculants, there was an emphasis on reducing nutritional losses during the feeding phase of whole-crop corn by applying Lactobacillus buchneri to reach a higher production of acetic acid at the expense of lactic acid. For forages high in crude protein and pectin, such as legumes, the application of inoculants favoring a rapid and abundant production of lactic acid was recommended (Lactobacillus plantarum y Pediococcus spp.). In the case of hay baled between 70-80 percent of dry matter, the application of propionic acid or ammonium propionate was recommended, with higher doses for legumes relative to grasses. The lack of efficacy of current hay inoculants is discussed, including how moisture and aerobic conditions explain their failure. In conclusion, critical factors such as forage type, management, and others must be considered for the optimal selection and application of preservatives for hay and silage
